Maps and Environments (ages 10-13)

Maps range from utilitarian to works of art and record a variety of information. Explore and create a variety of maps for a range of environments using drawing, watercolor pencil, watercolor painting, and/or oil pastel techniques.

  • Theme Park: Design and map a theme park with attractions all linked to the Theme of your choice.

  • Topographical Map: Inspired by Serpent Mounds learn about and create an artistic Topographical map of your own Serpent Mound.

  • Homes that Blend into their Environment: Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Falling Water” and other architecture that blends into its environment, design a home that blends into the environment of your choice.

  • Map of your Neighborhood or Personal Island: Prepare a bird’s eye view map of your neighborhood or personal island, including a compass rose and key/legend.

  • Treasure Map: Create a treasure map that leads to treasure hidden in your Neighborhood or Island map.

8 week session includes many of these projects based on student’s interests.
