Japanese Culture and Art

Using a variety of techniques we will make 2D and 3D projects inspired by Japanese art and culture.

  • Landscape scroll: Combine colored pencil and watercolor techniques to create a landscape painting. Enhance with colored or fancy paper to create a final Landscape scroll.

  • Wooden Musha (Warrior), Kimekomi (Ancestor) and Kokeshi Dolls: Use wooden pegs, balls, sticks, and shapes to create small dolls which will be painted.

  • Japanese Dragon Drawing: Draw Japanese style serpentine dragons in Japanese inspired settings.

  • Origami and Room of Wonders fusion: Fold a series of origami boxes to assemble into a Room of Wonders inspired display of personal symbols and additional origami forms.

  • Bento Boxes: Mold paper-pulp into foods to construct a lovely lunch served in an origami Bento box.

8 Week workshop will include several projects, selected based on students interest and skill level.
