Create a Bestiary (ages 13-adult)

Using more advanced lines, shapes, texture, and value, we improve our drawing of realistic and mythical animals. We will use fancy writing to add descriptions as we combine animals into a Bestiary (medieval book of animal illustrations and descriptions).

• Realistic animal outlines: Refer to photos to create observation drawings of animals. 

• Mythical Animals: Combine parts of various animals to create anatomically possible mythical animals. 

• Texture and Value: Learn techniques to add texture and value to your animals. Pencil and colored pencil drawing techniques 

• Name your Animals: Prepare names and definitions for your animals 

• Illuminate your Manuscript: Create labels for your animals in the style of Medieval illuminated manuscripts.

• Bind your Bestiary: Use simple bookbinding techniques to bind your pages of Mythical animals with illuminated labels into a final Bestiary.

8 week session includes these or similar projects based on student’s interest and skill level.
