Spiral Quilts: the Creation of a Series

The Original Sketch
I found this small sketch (about 1.5”x2”) in a 2009 sketchbook and it started spiraling in my mind. Within days I was imagining the design created in a variety of fabric combinations.
Almost immediately I could "see" it as a little quilt made of a gradation of indigo fabrics. So on a warm November day I dyed a gradation of Indigo fabrics. (Click to read my post about dyeing a gradation of indigo fabrics)
Soon I was working on value sketches.

The Final Template
As I worked on the value sketches I realized I preferred the more elongated version of the design.
I shared the Spiral Template with my family and we all colored during winter Zoom meetings.
