Water: Floating, Sinking, Drawing Summer Art and Science Camps

We had so much fun during "Water: Sinking, Floating, Drawing" Art and Science Camp!!!

We figured out how to float as many pennies as possible on a 4"x6" piece of aluminum foil. I was impressed with the variety of designs and the amount of corporation between campers. We simulated how a fish bladder works by blowing up a balloon inside a glass-bottle-fish to make it float. We made predictions, then explored how a variety of small objects float or sink in layered oil and water. Then we experimented with various fabrics, types of paper towel, cotton balls, spoons, pipettes, etc. to clean up the "oil spill" off the top of the water. We learned about the surface tension of water as we mounded over 20 drops of water on a penny. And we noticed how dishsoap affects surface tension when added to the water.

Each day of camp we also created marine creatures which we combined into a Marine Habitat in time for our final Exhibit for family and friends.

A special bonus was an invitation to see the Marine habitat a younger brother created inspired by his older siblings.
