Creating Clay Pinch Pot Creatures
The day I received emails really really wanting to know if I would return to teaching at school next school year, a neighbor offered to give me a kiln, potters wheel, clay, glaze etc. since I would be teaching Art and Summer camp to neighborhood kids this summer. I accepted the kiln and officially resigned my teaching position with the local school district.
Through the connections of another neighbor, the kiln now has electricity.
July 6 we had our first Wednesday morning camp working with clay. We built these Pinch Pot Creatures.
July 26 the Clay Pinch Pot Creatures were totally dry and it was time to fire my kiln for the first time. (I'm still getting used to saying "my kiln".) I was super nervous, as I always am for the first kiln firing of the season. Everything went smoothly. Check out the blazing hot view through the peephole. All the Creatures emerged ready to paint. I even remembered to photograph a few after painting, before they went home. This was the last camp of the season!
I have had so much fun teaching camps this summer! Now I'm working on plans for daytime Adult and Pre-school class and After-school kids classes.
